Engineering solutions

Volunteers who make equipment for disabled peopler at the heart of Remap; using engineering and practical skills alongside their inventive abilities to solve problems.

Many of our volunteers are from an engineering background, but we also need electronics and computing experts, people skilled with wood, those with passion for model engineering, in fact anyone with a talent for making things.

As a Remap volunteer you will get to meet the disabled people we help, often with an occupational therapist who can provide clinical input. Your job is to solve whatever practical challenge they throw at you, designing and then making a special piece of equipment that will help them become more independent. We also ask you to risk assess, provide basic documentation. and take photographs of your project.

You will need somewhere to work independently on your projects. Some of our volunteers have their own workshop, others use community facilities or have a workbench and tools in the garage. However you like to work, we would be pleased to hear from you.

Many of our volunteers say that they get huge satisfaction from helping people overcome the practical problems they face and seeing how lives can be transformed by sometimes simple solutions. Enabling a disabled person to become more independent is wonderful for everyone concerned.

Out of pocket expenses such as the cost of materials and travel expenses are paid and we like all our volunteers to participate in local group meetings where the current projects and items of general interest are discussed.
